Tea Party leader, former GOP vice presidential nominee, half-term governor, and reality TV star Sarah Palin has just endorsed Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. Palin Tuesday night will make the endorsement official, after massive rumors began Sunday, coaxed by Trump's teasing of a major announcement on social media.
Political wonks went so far as to track Palin's plane, which they say landed in Iowa Monday.
“I’m proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president,” Palin said in a statement first reported by The New York Times.
Calling her "a friend, and a high-quality person whom I have great respect for," Trump said he is "greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement," and "proud to have her support."
Palin and Trump will appear on stage together Tuesday afternoon at the Iowa State University.
The Times notes that "despite her waning visibility within the Republican Party retains a sizable following," Palin "provides Mr. Trump with valuable new currency at a moment when he is being attacked over his conservative bona fides by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, with whom Mr. Trump is neck-and-neck in the Iowa polls."
