Conservatives Announce War On War On Christmas

by David Badash on November 16, 2012

in News,Religion

Liberty Counsel, a radical Christian conservative legal firm and think tank, today announced their war on the War On Christmas, via their Tenth Annual “Friend or Foe” Christmas Campaign. Staver is promising to litigate against private retailers and businesses that are “censoring the Christmas message.”

In this video, head of the Liberty Counsel, Mat Staver, and Matt Barber, VP of Liberty Counsel Action, declare there is a War on Christmas that is “very serious.”

(Regular readers will remember that yesterday, Barber said that gay people don’t really want to get married, rather, they merely want to use same-sex marriage as a “weapon” against religious free speech. Because religious free speech includes having to use the word “Christmas” or risk litigation?)

Staver and Barber repeatedly use the word “private,” as in “private business” and “private retailer” yet seem to ignore the fact that retailers have the right to celebrate — or not celebrate — Christmas any way they like.

That’s what “freedom of religion” is all about.

In fact, retailers don’t have to mention the word “Christmas” at all if they don’t want to.

So, Liberty Counsel has used the Google machine to search for the word “Christmas” on retailers’ websites, to make their “Naughty or Nice” list.

Who’s on the “Naughty” list?

American Eagle

Abercrombie & Fitch

Banana Republic

Old Navy

J. Crew (whom Staver calls “JC Crew)

Polo Ralph Lauren & Ralph Lauren

Tractor Supply Company

Of course, in the true spirit of Christmas, Liberty Counsel is using their war on the War on Christmas to make a few bucks, like buying their war on War On Christmas memos (image, top), buttons, or just giving them your hard-earned cash.

These people are flipping lunatics.

I agree, perhaps even better to say that the 'Liberty Counsel' are the one who will be going to hell. A is often said, 'better the devil you know than the devil you don't'.

Wow, talk about taking Christmas a little too seriously. If they are THAT determined to keep the Christ in Christmas then they need to get out of the stores and into volunteerism and showing love… in the spirit that Christ would have shown. But you know, whatever.

Dear Liberty Counsel, thanks for providing my HOLIDAY shopping list.

These two gentlemen, represent the essence of all that is so wrong in the USA. Liberty University – and all extended organizations (Jerry Falwell lives on – this is his legacy) continue to THRUST their outrageous, although extremely small minded (obviously), extremist religiosity, hateful to the core – out to their audience, keeping them well and thriving with the message of their god(s). Quite a religion – with a primary focus of 'controlling' others, imposing their 1st century ways wherever they can get away with it and an endless pursuit of tearing down social evolution – (oops, the e word). Governor Ultra Sound hails from this great group of maniacs – as do others, parading the world as 'good folk' while taking rights away whenever, wherever they can.

In that case, I'm going to start protesting the "War on Saturnalia." I have yet to see one Saturnalia card at Hallmark, or be wished a Blessed Saturnalia by a store clerk.

I know the feeling. Last night I went to buy a Happy Dionysus Birthday card. Sadly, a card was not found. So I bought four bottles of wine and my friends and I danced in the moonlight. We'll do the same for Christmas – no war on anything.

After that whole temple-clearing episode, you would think Ieshua had made his feelings on commercialization of religion pretty clear. I'm not so sure he would approve of having his name on plastic banners hanging over the new shipment of Grand Theft Auto at Sprawl-Mart.

Not again! STFU! And go home! What a bunch of ridiculous, assholes!
