Stephen Colbert hosted Rachel Maddow last night to discuss the elections, her coverage, and told the MSNBC anchor she reconstructs the news “into a conservative dream-killing machine.” Colbert also plugged the best-selling author and Oxford scholar’s book, Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power.
“I think the difference between the two sides is that the right talked themselves into the idea that it was going to be a Romney landslide based on, I don’t know, guts, feelings,” Maddow told Colbert.
“The people — Karl Rove was saying, ‘yes I see the polls but I also see the enthusiastic crowds and based on the enthusiastic crowds I’m sure that Romney is going to win.’ Turned out it was a bad way to predict the election. We were looking at the polls.”
Colbert mentioned there’s still a path to 270, if Romney picks up “the secret state only Republicans can see, Whitesylvania.”
Importantly, Maddow added, “I do feel there ‘s an important role to play in disabusing people of their fantasies that do not comport with what’s going on in the real world.”
Colbert also mentioned Maddow’s amazing, absolutely must see and must share report Wednesday night that explained all the things that won’t happen — fortunately — because Romney lost, and all the things that the GOP must recognize as facts and reality, including evolution, climate chnage, and the moon landing.
It was epic:
