Coca-Cola Releases Ad With Gay Dads Days Before The Olympics

Coca-Cola released a terrific ad during yesterday’s Super Bowl, with an interesting cast of Americans, including a gay couple.

Entitled It’s Beautiful  the sixty-second spot features Katharine Bates’ America The Beautiful being sung in many languages by Americans from many backgrounds.

Included in the ad is a gay couple – two dads with their daughter. This is the first time Coke has included same-sex partners in an ad, an interesting decision, with the release just four days before the Olympics begin.

Have a look, and see what you think. Is the message for the LGBT community? Or is the message for Russia that it’s ok to be gay?

As nice as it was, it might be seen as a shield for their sponsorship of the Games. It was a PR move. It's hard to see the positive in it considering what is going on.

Don’t forget…here is QUEER NATION NY response to Coca Cola’s ‘It’s Beautiful’ Diversity ad.
"Queer Nation NY statement on Coca-Cola’s “It’s Beautiful,” diversity Super-Bowl commercial. http://tinyurl.com/kp5pgmr

"The LGBT community already has a gay version of a Coca-Cola ad and it’s been a viral sensation, as Coke well knows. At more than 90,0000 views on YouTube it has been embraced by people in 170 different countries around the world.

It’s nice that Coke has made another ad, but if reports are true it only aired in LGBT-friendly Western markets that’s a shameful act.

Coca-Cola still has not lifted a finger to help the persecuted LGBT community of Russia. And that will remain a stain on their brand for years. Coke needs to come out of the Russian closet with the company’s support for all LGBT peoples’ human rights."

Cocacola is a junk food, and a habit causing diabetes in hundreds of millions. No informed persons, gay or straight is drinking it. I don't even watch any of their commercials. Waste of time.

ALSO from GSN: While some appreciated the drinks giant’s love letter to the patriotic spirit of immigrants, others accused Coke of committing ‘corporate suicide’.

'Hope this faggot chokes on his coke and dies,' one said on Twitter, while others said they would boycott the drink.

But most did not realise that the songwriter behind 'America The Beautiful', Katharine Lee Bates, was a lesbian.

Recently, the beverage maker has been under fire for its marketing.

A social marketing effort in South Africa allowed customers to give each other personalized Coke cans backfired after the site would not allow users to put ‘gay’ on them.

But despite that, GLAAD has praised Coca-Cola for the Super Bowl advert. http://tinyurl.com/m9b5t5r

First a rendition of “America the Beautiful” in (gasp!) non-English lyrics and now this.

Time for House Republicans to pass a resolution (because they clearly have nothing better to do with their time):

Bring on the Pepsi and Freedom Fries!

The "gay dads" were on so briefly, that, if I hadn't been told what they were, I'd have never guessed. I don't think it makes much of a statement at all. I'd like to see if Coke shows in Russia during the Games. And lebels the men as gay dads. Interestingly, several other videos show other little girls singing the song in different languages. None was Russian.
