Flip Benham Says Protests Fulfilled His Prophecy Of ‘Bloodshed In The Streets’ If Nondiscrimination Ordinance Wasn’t Repealed
When we last heard from hateful anti-LGBT Charlotte preacher Flip Benham, he was attempting to disrupt the city’s Pride celebration with a loudspeaker and vivid descriptions of anal sex.
On Monday, Benham voiced his thoughts again (video above), this time blaming protests over the fatal police shooting of Keith Scott on the city’s nondiscrimination ordinance — which, of course, led to passage of the anti-LGBT House Bill 2.Â
Benham opened his rant during a City Council meeting with the “best word you’re ever gonna hear,” a passage from Isaiah 1.
“It is you who unleashed hell in our city when you tried to say that boy and girls are not that,” Benham went on to tell council members. “You did it! Now repent [Mayor] Jennifer Roberts, in the name of Jesus Christ!”
According to Benham, the protests were a fulfillment of his recent prophecy that because of the nondiscrimination ordinance: “You’re gonna have bloodshed coursing down the corridors of our streets, our schools, and our workplaces. You’re not gonna have a police force big enough to stop it, because when you sow bloodshed in the womb and three abortion mills here in this city, you’re gonna reap it in the streets.”Â
Monday’s meeting was an emotional event, which opened with members of the public giving the “Black Power” salute during the Pledge of Allegiance and others remaining seated. Roberts gave a brief statement offering condolences to Scott’s family, and thanking the public servants who were on the job during the protests.
The citizens’ forum was centered around the recent unrest, with several emotionally charged speeches from citizens.Â
One young speaker gripped national attention for her tearful explanation of the impact of the epidemic of police shootings on children.
The entire forum is on Charlotte’s government website.
