Santorum: Pro-Choice Activists ‘Make It Uncomfortable For Students To Shower At A YMCA Gym’

Rick Santorum has spent the past six years of his life running for the Republican party nomination for president. He has actually managed to make a very nice living for himself, his wife, and their seven children by touring the country and getting paid ridiculous amounts of money to tell people what he thinks about national and world events — and social issues, like same-sex marriage, abortion, and religion.

Never mind that Santorum is no longer a Senator and so doesn’t have access to information he offers his opinion on, but that’s another story for another day.

Recently, the former Pennsylvania Senator gave a speech to the anti-choice group, Students for Life, whose mission is to “abolish abortion in our lifetime.”

Somehow, he found it both wise and possible to offer up this line, which no doubt will go down in infamy:

“They make it uncomfortable for students who come to Austin to shower at a Young Men’s Christian Association, YMCA, gym, because they live it.”

Ironically, the speech had nothing to do with homosexuality or same-sex marriage, but rather, abortion and the passion of people on the left. Apparently, Santorum believes there’s lots of abortion talk going on  in YMCA showers.

And Santorum urged his audience to behave more like liberals and progressives. Santorum compared America’s modern-day liberals to American Revolutionaries in George Washington’s Continental Army.

“We won the American Revolution against those British not because we were the most powerful, not because we had the most arms, not because we had the truth, we won because we wanted it more, we were willing to sacrifice everything for it and we were not going to give up, we were not going to stop. That’s how the left has done to America what you’ve seen in your lifetime because they simply won’t give up.”

Suggesting the left is better at coalition building, Santorum said the left “focus on everything they do and in every aspect of their life,” Santorum lamented. “They make it uncomfortable for students who come to Austin to shower at a Young Men’s Christian Association, YMCA, gym, because they live it.”

“They do it, they live it, they are passionate, they are willing to do and say uncomfortable things in mixed company, they are willing to make the sacrifice with their business because they care enough.”

“We have the truth and we give up, we have righteousness and we give up because it’s unpopular.”

Please, can someone find a Village People joke in here, somewhere?

Sorry, that's too mind-numbingly stupid to even generate a joke… Of course, Frothy usually has that mind-numbing effect on me.

I don't know about you, but I have never heard of anyone being made uncomfortable because they have to be around people who are pro-choice. Perhaps, his "students" comments is just referring to himself. I find it incredibly hypocritical of him to say that liberals are incredibly focused on these issues when he spends his life talking about them and poking his nose into business that isn't his. That being said, I hope he keeps talking; he'll only dig himself deeper and deeper into oblivion.

Idiot.

It seems to me that plenty of social conservatives are "willing to do and say uncomfortable things in mixed company" – and do, often. Oh yah I forgot – they are now claiming victimhood; supposedly unable to 'speak their truth'.

I guess he sees his 'running for office' (er, babbling for dollars) as an example of the dedication ("in every aspect of their life") that he says soc-cons are missing. There's something almost heart-warming in seeing him attack his followers for being lazy and non-committal. I remember when it was 'leftist hippies' that were supposedly the slackers.

Oh let them vote for him as the nominee. It'll make it that much quicker to watch them go down in flames.

He just gets less and less coherent as he goes on. It's sort of fascinating to watch someone disintegrate like that. Scary, but fascinating.

I've read the comment, listened to Frothy speak it… and I still have NO IDEA what he is talking about.
Perhaps it is himself who is uncomfortable at the YMCA, showering with all those glistening and soapy young men…
