NOM Communications Director Hospitalized, In Critical Condition, After Accident

by David Badash on July 17, 2013

in News,Religion

Thomas Peters, the Communications Director at NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, and a blogger who writes as the American Papist, reportedly has been hospitalized, possibly with a broken vertebra after a swimming accident.

Peters, who is very active on Twitter as @AmericanPapist, is the son of Canon Lawyer Ed Peters.

Although there has been no announcement from NOM, Catholic Vote notes this morning, “Thomas was involved in an accident yesterday evening and has sustained major injuries,” in a blog entry:

He is awake, responsive, and in stable but critical condition. Family and friends are with him.

Out of respect for Thomas and his family, we will share additional information as is appropriate.

Please keep his recovery in your prayers.

LGBT activists were also quick to offer support.

Our thoughts are with Thomas and his family and friends. We wish him a speedy and full recovery.

Editor’s note: Reports are unclear as to the cause of the accident, auto was first reported. We have edited this report to update the cause.

What? No well-wishing from Maggie Gallagher?

I don't like to hear of anyone being hurt. This sounds pretty severe. I hope the LGBT community will be kinder about this than one of them (from NOM) might be if it was one of us in this condition. We don't need to stoop to their level and wish any of them dead like has happened so many times towards us coming from their side of the planet (all "hate" groups included here).

Besides, it won't hurt to have their attention away from us for a moment. Give everyone a chance to calm down.

Well wishes to Thomas Peters, his wife, family and friends..

I do not wish him ill. I must point-out, however, that using the usual right-wing criteria, it must, indeed, be God's will that this man should be put out-of-action for his misdeeds. God is speaking-out to NOM; repent!

Your headline says "Auto accident" and the first paragraph says "Swimming accident." Which is it?

Thom's father updated that it was a swimming accident.

I wish him and his family and friends well, but it's not going to change my opinion of them at all.

One word: karma. Sorry he got hurt, but you reep what you sow.

I won't wish him harm or death, but I think of all the gay and lesbian couples whom have been denied the right to be at their loved one's side in the hospital due to efforts of people like Thomas Peters and it stops me from having any pity for him.
You reap what you sow.
